Using Survey Gizmo I sent out the following two questions:
- What is the best thing any employer has ever done for you to make you feel appreciated?
- Is there something you would rather have your employer do that would make you feel more appreciated? If so, what would that be?
Guess what? After categorizing the responses, both questions had the same result. Employees want Positive Feedback! 25% of the respondents said that Positive Feedback was the best thing their employer had done to make them feel appreciated. For question 2, Positive Feedback was 28% followed very closely by Recognition at 23%!
So what does that mean? Here are a few quotes from the survey……
“Tell me that I am appreciated.”
“Tell me that I am doing a really good job, especially with examples.”
“Saying thanks for a job well done is more important than getting roses and lunch on secretary’s day which always seems forced.”
“Many people leave a place of business because they don’t feel appreciated. A “great job” or “I see that you’re improving” or a note of encouragement goes a long way.”
“Highlight the positive instead of always the negative.”
Recently working with a client and his leadership team, they decided to implement a “Gotcha Moment”. Their focus will be to find their employees doing something right! It could be something as simple as proposing a simple solution to a client problem. It might be a small suggestion to improve a workflow. Maybe they come in early or stay late to finish up a project.
Look for those “Gotcha Moments” and just say “Thank you! Great job and I appreciate you!”
